The Fine Arts Work Center is electric with nightly readings, artist talks, exhibitions, and cultural events this summer. In June, the Summer Workshop Program begins 90 open-enrollment workshops in visual arts and creative writing. In July, the Work Center’s signature events kick off with the illustrious Summer Awards Celebration honoring James Lecesne and Eileen Myles. In August, the 40th Annual Art Auction salutes Varujan Boghosian.
40th Annual Art Auction and Exhibitions
The Work Center’s highly anticipated Annual Art Auction will be held on Saturday, August 20, marking it’s 40th anniversary and celebrating one of Provincetown’s most revered artists, Varujan Boghosian and his 90th birthday. The live event features 100 art lots, including works by Boghosian, as well as destination packages, gift cards, and collectibles. The Work Center hosts an exhibition devoted entirely to Boghosian, curated by esteemed gallerist Berta Walker July 29 through August 22.
Other Work Center exhibitions include “The Last artSTRANDING: From the Beginning,” featuring selected works by artSTRAND founding artists Bert Yarborough, Bailey Bob Bailey, Paul Bowen, Jay Critchley, Breon Dunigan, Maryalice Johnston, Irene Lipton, Sarah Lutz, Francis Olschafskie, Jim Peters, Anna Poor, Daniel Ranalli, and Tabitha Vevers. The show runs Friday, June 10 through July 4.
This year’s Summer Awards Celebration July 9 spotlights the Work Center’s Summer Workshop Program by honoring two esteemed faculty: poet/novelist Eileen Myles and playwright/actor James Lecesne. The companion exhibition “Visual Arts Faculty of the Summer Program” will feature work by the program’s 30 visual arts faculty and opens at the gala celebration, continuing through July 24.
From June 12 to August 26, the Fine Arts Work Center offers 11 weeks of workshops taught by renowned faculty, both new and returning. The program includes workshops in poetry, fiction, memoir, essays, graphic novel, songwriting, screen writing, young adult fiction, painting, drawing, print making, sculpture, photography, multi-media, performance art, and filmmaking/video.
