New and Notable this Season at Bowersock Gallery
373 Commercial Street, Provincetown
New this season, Bowersock Gallery is pleased to present award-winning artist Jeff Eckert to their 2018 roster (See cover and page 4). Having been the recipient of high honors at countless National art festivals, Jeff as a top graphite artist continues, fervently, in his pursuit to keep what he feels is a “dying art” alive. He is well known for his black and white drawings based in realism and is quite pleased to be showing at Bowersock.
Other notable artists on view in the gallery include Alan Ammann who has been very well received over the past few years. Alan’s energetic, colorful contemporary oils move the eye around canvas akin to the way one might engage with a pinball machine game! Pleasing as a whole, he also leaves moments where one can rest and find themselves lost in the wonderful duality of his pieces. A realist and atelier-trained painter, one of Ammann’s portraits was selected as a semifinalist in the prestigious Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery Triennial Portrait Competition. His work is generously on show throughout the US.
Steve Bowersock, the gallery’s co-owner, will be debuting his gold leaf series this coming July. What we find here is a complete exploration in reflection of light cast from the gold leaf, surrounded by the many variations of nature’s beauty. As he captures a “moment in time” these new works create space for peaceful, contemplative meditation, upon viewing.
The gallery notes that it runs the gamut from Abstraction to Realism, and features groundbreaking artists such as Julie Beck, a contemporary, realist, painter who is the Assistant Director at the Academy of Realist Art, Boston. Whether an animal or object, nothing is as it seems in Julie’s work. Every scene is a story filled with commentary on both the more intimate of personal reflection (which may be relevant to many viewers) as well as musings on the world at large, through symbols which speak both literally and symbolically. Julie’s art has garnered numerous awards and is exhibited throughout the United States.
Bowersock Gallery was established in 2004 as a venue to encourage the exploration of deeper interest for contemporary, modern, abstract, surrealistic, realistic, tonal, and classical works of art. Representing over 35 artists, the gallery is heading into it’s 15th season showcasing local, New England and Nationally based artists who broaden the breadth of both corporate and private collections, alike. The Bowersock Gallery team is passionate about serving their clients and holds strong to a commitment which fosters an environment where inspiration can flourish. Once you enter, you’ll find everything from watercolor, oils, and encaustic works to bronze sculpture which whets the sensory appetite through a well-rounded experience for your visual and emotional pleasure.
